45’th Krugerrand Anniversary

The first 22 carat gold bullion Krugerrand's were minted at The South African Mint in Pretoria in 1967, primarily to promote sales of South African gold.

The huge success of the Krugerrand, actually encourage other countries to mint their own bullion coins, after it became illegal for these countries to import Krugerrand's during sanctions.

Bullion Krugerrand have no face value and their value is calculated by the ruling gold price.

The South African Mint, issued 300 special launch Krugerrand sets in order to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Krugerrand.

The 45th anniversary Krugerrand launch set consists of the 1 ounce proof Krugerrand which portrays the bust of Paul Kruger on the obverse of the coin.

The reverse of the Krugerrand portrays the Springbok with the mintage year being 2012. The mintmark “45 years” is displayed on the reverse of the Krugerrand, above the Springbok.
