30’th Anniversary

Krugerrand

The first Krugerrand’s were struck in 1967. 1997 was therefore the 30’th anniversary since the first Krugerrand’s were minted and in order to commemorate this auspicious occasion, The South African Mint  minted one of the first ever Krugerrand’s to portray a mintmark. Only 30 x 30’th anniversary Krugerrand prestige sets were compiled. These sets consist of a 1 ounce Proof Krugerrand, a half ounce Proof Krugerrand, a quarter ounce Proof Krugerrand and a one tenth ounce Proof Krugerrand, all of which portray the 30’th anniversary mintmark on the reverse of the Krugerrand above the 9 of ‘97. The obverse (front) of the 30’th anniversary Krugerrand portrays the bust of Paul Kruger as is customary with all Krugerrand's. The coins are elegantly presented in a wooden box with a 1967 vintage, Lanzerac Pinotage wine. Not only were these of the 1’st ever Krugerrand's to portray a mintmark, but to date these are the only fractional Krugerrand's which have been struck which portray a mintmark
