Nobel Laureates
The Laureattes of the Nobel Peace Prize gold series (Mandela and de Klerk) were minted by the Mint of Norway. These gold medallions were first minted in 2005 in order to commemorate Mr Nelson Mandela and Mr F.W de Klerk being joint laureates of the Nobel peace prize in 1993.
50 x 1 kilogram Nelson Mandela medallions were first minted, followed by 100 X 5 ounces and 5000 tenth ounces, all minted in 24 carat gold . All of these have the bust of Nelson Mandela as well as the inscription Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and
“a long walk to freedom” on the obverse and the Nobel Laurel as well as the inscription “honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize 1993” on the reverse
NOBEL LAUREATES MANDELA
The de Klerk Mandela completes the Laureates of the Nobel Peace prize series which was minted by the Mint of Norway. As with the Kilogram and 5 ounces the bust of Nelson Mandela is portrayed on the one side as well as the inscription “ A long walk to freedom”. What makes the de Klerk Mandela so special is that you have two previous heads of state on either side. The flip side therefore portrays the bust of
F.W de Klerk, the man responsible for releasing Nelson Mandela from jail , as well as the inscription
Frederik Willem de Klerk and the year 1993, the year that Nelson Mandela and F.W de Klerk were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. F.W de Klerk’s belief that all South Africans be equal is also inscribed, “To bring justice to everybody”
